An Introduction

I have something a bit different to share today - I would like to introduce you to the two latest editions to our family - Peggy and Rita.

We have had them for just over three weeks now - we have had chickens in the past and they were allowed to roam in the garden, however we have Ramsey and Jasper now and we didn't think that it would be a good idea to let them in the garden together so we built them a run.

They do seem to get along really well - the dogs think the chickens are quite interesting and fortunately the chickens really don't seem at all bothered by the dogs.

They have plenty of space and we have put an old garden bench in there for them, they seem to rather enjoy sitting on it, they also have a log to perch on and I am going to find some old plant pots and bits and bobs to add some interest.

Peggy is a lot more adventurous than Rita but they are never very far apart.

We had our first egg yesterday, it was laid by Peggy.

It is quite small but perfectly formed, I seem to remember that the first eggs laid by our old chickens had soft shells, this one is nice and hard.

We had our second egg this morning, again laid by Peggy so I decided to have poached eggs for my lunch and they were yummy.

Hopefully Rita will begin to lay soon and we will have lots of lovely eggs.

Thank you for visiting my blog today, please leave a comment so that I can come and visit you.

Their color is beautiful and how cool they and the dogs get along. Eggs are my go to when I don't know what to have. Egg salad for lunch or an omelet for dinner.

Welcome to Peggy and Rita! I have only one chicken now and sadly she don't make eggs by a year. Here the chicken you can buy are bred badly, they do not care that they live for long, nor that they make eggs for a long time. I love fresh eggs of happy chickens (and yours are surely happy!) My chicken name is Menda, now she is three years old and have a lot of space to wandering and scratching. Currently she spends her days waiting for ripe grapes to fall from the vines. LOL :D She loves ripe! I have to buy at least two more chickens to keep her company, but in this period here they aren't available.
Love seeing that your dogs and chickens seem being friends!! How sweet!

How nice to see Peggy and Rita in their new run. And your dogs find them very interesting. And hopefully Rita will follow Peggy in laying eggs, so you can enjoy a freshly laid egg more often.
